Volunteer Opportunities

All open volunteer opportunities are listed through Volunteer Local. We require each volunteer to have attended the Volunteer Orientation and completed a Volunteer Application. The listed opportunity will let you know if the 40 Hour Domestic Violence Advocacy Training is required. You will received a confirmation email once you have signed up for a particular opportunity. Please email Melanie Galloway with any questions or concerns: mgalloway@laurashouse.org

For any non-profit organization, volunteerism is essential. Laura's House depends on volunteers to keep all of our programs running smoothly and consistently. Our 400 dedicated volunteers contribute over 10,000 hours per year to our programs. Fingerprinting is required for all Volunteers and TB Tests for volunteers who work with children. All Volunteers must complete the 40 Hour Training (see below) to work at the Counseling and Resource Center or the Shelter. If you have particular skills in areas that you think could benefit Laura's House - please contact us.

40-Hour State Certified Domestic Violence Advocate Training

Thank you for your interest in the 40-Hour Domestic Violence Advocate Training.

Completion of this training meets the requirements set by California Evidence Code 1037.1 for designation as a Domestic Violence Counselor. After completing 40 hours of training, graduates shall receive a Certificate of Completion that will enable them to pursue volunteer and employment opportunities working directly with survivors of domestic violence in California. Laura’s House offers two trainings a year.

If you have received any services from Laura’s House you must wait an entire year from date of last service received before you can participate in the training.

If your purpose in completing the training is to volunteer directly with the women and children at Laura’s House, bear in mind that at this time certification does not guarantee you a volunteer position with our agency.
