Legal Advocacy at Laura's House

Legal advocates provide education, support and court accompaniment to victims of Domestic Violence who are seeking legal services at Laura's House. Legal services are limited to restraining orders for Domestic Violence only and are available at the Counseling and Resource Center, Domestic Violence Advocacy Center and the Emergency Shelter.

  • Guidance Through the entire Restraining Order Process
  • Preparation and Filing of Restraining Order Paperwork
  • Court Accompaniment
  • Preparing Clients for Restraining Order Hearings
  • Courthouse Anxiety Reduction Techniques (Meditation, Aromatherapy, etc.)
  • Education on Victim Rights
  • Referrals to Legal Resources
  • Services Available in Spanish & Vietnamese
  • Community Outreach and Education

Laura's House: Teaming with the legal community to assist victims of domestic violence

Compassion, enthusiasm and support from the Legal Community enhance our Legal Department’s ability to meet the needs of survivors of Domestic Violence and their children. The assistance of an attorney can make a lasting and life changing difference for victims of Domestic Violence.

Legal Clinic

Attorneys can get involved in the following way:

Restraining Order Legal Clinics: Laura's House hosts a monthly legal clinic for clients to meet one on one with a volunteer attorney regarding their restraining order case.

Legal Clinic:

The Legal Department hosts a monthly legal clinic on the fourth Tuesday of every month. Clients have an opportunity to speak to an attorney for 30 minutes. A prior appointment and registration fee is required.
