We can help if you are in danger and you need a safe place to stay, if you have questions or want to talk about your situation, if you want information to make the right decisions for you, or if you want to know about resources available to you like support groups, therapy, legal assistance with restraining orders and more.
Domestic violence has a tremendous effect on children and their developing brains. Often times children see and hear things that we think they don’t. Our Children’s Therapeutic program offers a variety of ways to connect and guide children in their healing journey. We are happy to see the progress that our children make in the warm, inviting and stable atmosphere that our programs and services provide.
The Therapy department offers an intake and assessment for therapy services, short-term individual or family therapy, therapeutic workshops, and group therapy, such as the court-approved curriculum of the Personal Empowerment Program (PEP). PEP is the foundation and the beginning of the therapy services. Individual therapy offers you a safe, confidential place that allows you to talk openly with a therapist who is trained to be unbiased, listen attentively and to help you improve issues that may be confusing, painful, or uncomfortable. Additionally, children aged 5 or older may also receive individual therapy.

The goal of the Transitional Living Program is to help clients become self-sufficient and strive for overall stability. Transitional clients collaborate closely with a therapist and case manager to work towards their goals, which may involve achieving financial stability, enrolling in an educational program, obtaining employment, or securing permanent housing, among other objectives.

“Laura’s House is the open door that I needed to face my history of domestic violence. They’ve helped me understand why I’ve been hurt and that my life was at risk. I’ve learned to overcome my fears, to fight my depression, I have come to know myself and know that my present can be the consequence of my past, and that I can make it through. I am so thankful because my life now is stable and I am getting to know myself; as a result of this situation I have learned to be happy and so have those around me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
“I am very grateful to the administration, staff and volunteers at Laura’s House for giving me the opportunity to leave an abusive marriage and help me and my child rebuild a new life. Being in a safe and thriving living environment was so important allowing me to not having to resort to going back to a very terrible situation. I have been able to successfully rebuild and begin my new life with my child. Laura’s House helped provide the resources, a roof over our head and necessities to live while also pushing me not to give up and quit. From the legal help to the therapy to the chores and everything overall helped me to stay motivated and make this new life tangible.”
“I went into Laura’s House with honestly, no hope. My family didn’t have the means to help at the time. I was lost and scared. The AMAZING resources and support from everyone at the shelter and transitional program slowly built me back up to the person I am today. And I know the road will not end here. And at least now I am stronger, happier and ready. I truly believe that me and my two daughters were able to have a second chance at life because of our experience with Laura’s House. I am slowly seeing the silver lining in our experience with domestic violence, because without it, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I wouldn’t have met the most strongest women I’ve ever met. I wouldn’t have known what true support feels like. I am so grateful.”
